Why make the switch to natural skincare products?

What does ‘natural skincare’ mean?

The term ‘natural’ in the skincare world may mean a variety of things- organic, natural or naturally-derived ingredients being the most common references.  Natural may also refer to a product being eco/environmentally-friendly, green, vegan, cruelty-free (no animal testing and/or no animal-based ingredients), or may describe the product as being free of chemical, synthetic, toxic or preservative ingredients.

Why make the switch to natural skincare?

People make the switch to natural skincare products for various reasons.  Sudden onset of skin irritation or sensitivity to mainstream products cause some to search for a more natural, gentle and mild way to care for their skin.  Those with inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis or rosacea often find relief or improvement with a natural, mild and simplified skincare routine.  Many people are searching out and switching to natural skincare products to reduce exposure to synthetics, toxins or particular irritants.  Others desire biodegradable, eco-friendly and cruelty-free products out of respect for the environment.

Natural skincare companies are sometimes small-scale, local businesses which source high-quality natural, organic and minimally-processed plant-based ingredients from the same reputable suppliers which supply to spas and large-scale natural beauty brands. Finding a local natural skincare formulator or brand to support means your skin will have fresh and convenient access to premium natural ingredients- plant oils, butters, botanical extracts, essential oils, and natural high-performance ingredients, while feeling good about supporting someone’s small business (and large dream!).

Some natural skincare brands or formulators offer customization, which is impossible to achieve with large mainstream skincare and beauty brands.  Informing your local formulator or small skincare business may mean they can omit certain ingredients you find irritating, allergenic or sensitive to.  Certified natural cosmetic or product formulators are skincare formulation experts, and can create custom natural skincare to meet your particular skin needs.

Natural skincare products contain only quality, natural ingredients, which means your skin receives real nourishment and hydration which delivers visible results.  Natural ingredients infuse the skin with vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, phytonutrients, polyphenols, antioxidants and other potent elements which work to effectively improve the look, feel and health of the skin.  Natural skincare products deliver results that match or more likely out-perform mainstream beauty brands, without having your skin absorb any of the harsh, synthetic or toxic ingredients.

How can you go natural in your life?

A great way to live a more natural lifestyle is by replacing the products you use most often with natural products.  Replacing mainstream, synthetic skincare products in your routine with quality, natural skincare products can make a huge difference to your skin’s health and appearance while reducing exposure to synthetic or toxic ingredients.  You may choose to start going natural by introducing one or two natural products into your skincare and daily routine.  Every step makes a difference in improving your skin health, and the health of the environment.
